Week 25 | 3 months prior to wedding day

MUSIC SELECTIONS

Most couples opt to have more desi music played at the Sangeet/Garba and leave more American style music for the Reception.

It’s important to consider not having the same playlist for both nights to keep the ambiance fresh and unique. We know that your guests definitely don’t want to dance to the same songs multiple times.

For a Hindu wedding, there are several pieces of music you will need to decide on for your big day.  You can use our Song Selection Template to list your song choices then give it to your DJ or Band.

Ceremony music to consider:

  • Music for the groom’s entrance
  • Music for bridesmaids’ or cousins’ entrances
  • Music for the bride’s entrance

Beyond those, it’s important to give your DJ some guidance about the type of music to be played during the ceremony.  Most DJs default to Shehnai music, but if you prefer something else be sure to discuss that during your final meeting.

Remember that you’ll have guests from every age group ranging from your grandparents to your favorite niece. So, while this wedding is all about you and your fiancé, consider your guests and play a variety of music that everyone will enjoy.

Reception music selection:
For specific choices, like your cake cutting, first dance, etc. select songs that have a special place in your heart – your guests can see it on your faces how much you are enjoying the moment when those songs are played!

DesiWeds Insight:
